# Conference on the Future of Europe

Following a series of citizens-led debates held over the course of a year, the Council has been acting on citizens' recommendations and proposals to help shape the future of Europe.

## The Conference in a nutshell

The Conference on the Future of Europe was a **citizens-led series of debates** that enabled people from across Europe to share their ideas and help shape our common future.

The Conference was a unique and unprecedented democratic exercise in which citizens had the chance to discuss **key priorities and challenges** and propose **recommendations** on the kind of Europe they want to live in. The Conference ran for a year, from April 2021 to May 2022. It closed with the presentation of a **final report** containing 49 proposals and 326 measures to the presidents of the European Parliament, the Council and the European Commission.

Since then, the three institutions have been **following up** on those proposals and measures, each within its own sphere of competences and in accordance with the EU treaties.

## Follow-up in the Council

The Council remains fully committed to the Conference process and to swiftly responding to citizens' concerns. Since the close of the Conference, the Council has taken concrete steps to deliver in areas such as the economy, social justice, external relations, energy, climate change and health.
