Support for the fund has come from the founding members of the Frontier Model Forum, including Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, as well as philanthropic partners such as the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Schmidt Sciences, and Jaan Tallinn. Initially administered by the [Meridian Institute](https://merid.org/), the FMF has managed the fund directly since Meridian announced in June of 2025 that it would be closing its operations. The fund supports independent research that promotes the responsible development of frontier AI models, minimizes the risk of frontier AI systems to public safety and security, and enables standardized, third-party evaluations of frontier AI capabilities.
