The blog is written by Scott Alexander Siskind,[\[1\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slate_Star_Codex#cite_note-TheVerge-1) a [San Francisco Bay Area](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_Bay_Area "San Francisco Bay Area") [psychiatrist](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychiatrist "Psychiatrist"),[\[2\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slate_Star_Codex#cite_note-nytssc-2) under the pen name Scott Alexander.

_Slate Star Codex_ was launched in 2013 and was temporarily discontinued on June 23, 2020. In July 2020 the blog was partially back online, with the content restored but commenting disabled. The successor [Substack](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Substack "Substack") blog, _Astral Codex Ten_,[\[2\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slate_Star_Codex#cite_note-nytssc-2) was launched on January 21, 2021.
