My earliest work on this, at DeepMind, was on a narrow technical level. My subsequent work at OpenAI zoomed out to consider AI governance, existential threat models, and the long-term future of humanity. Most of my posts so far on this blog have zoomed out even further, attempting to analyze the organizing principles underlying minds and societies on a very abstract level. As I solidify this philosophical foundation for my thinking, I expect to zoom back in to make more concrete predictions and recommendations about how AI will (and should) play out.
