Crate Free USA staff also reviewed this page prior to publication. Open Philanthropy recommended a grant of $70,350 to Crate Free USA to support campaigning against the use of gestation crates for pigs. There are approximately 6 million sows in the United States, at least three-quarters of which are routinely confined in gestation crates. This follows our August 2019 support and falls within our focus area of farm animal welfare.
