Open Philanthropy recommended a grant of $11,955,246 over five years to UC Berkeley to support the Center for Human-Compatible Artificial Intelligence (CHAI). The multi-year commitment and increased funding will enable CHAI to expand its research and student training related to potential risks from advanced artificial intelligence. This is a renewal of our August 2016 grant. The grant amount was updated in April 2024.
