[Human Health and Wellbeing] Open Philanthropy recommended two grants totaling $190,900 to Project Peanut Butter (PPB) to support their work advocating for including DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, in UNICEF’s recommended standard for Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF). This follows our July 2019 support for PPB’s randomized controlled trial studying whether adding omega-3 fatty acids to RUTF benefits childrens’ cognitive development, which found that including DHA led to improved results in a cognitive assessment. PPB estimates that updating UNICEF’s RUTF formulation could benefit over 4 million children per year. This falls within our focus area of scientific research, specifically within our interest in advancing human health and wellbeing.
